INTERNATIONAL: Eleven-year-old Hassan has turned up at Vysne Nemecke in Slovakia having crossed from Ukraine alone with only one bag of possessions, his passport, and a phone number written on his hand, Slovak police have said.

Hassan was later reunited with his siblings in the capital Bratislava, Slovak charity Association of Christian Youth Communities (ZKSM) .

Hassan's mother Yulia Pisecka sent a video message to ZKSM thanking Slovak authorities for taking care of her son.

"People with big hearts live in your small country. Save our children, please, protect our Ukrainian children," Pisecka has said in her message, emotional with tears in her eyes.

Pisecka, who is a widow, had to stay in Zaporizhzhia to care for her mother who is 84 and disabled, she has said. She sent Hassan alone to Slovakia by train.
